The Architecture of Time: A Collaged Poem + Invitation to Practice

A Collage + Found Poem

Explorers made an exhaustive search for traces of life

The Architecture of Time

A SLOPE / the endless line

To weary climbers, this slope was "slippery as greased glass."

This must be the secret…
what draws us all to
three dimensions:
the best classroom for
passing effortlessly between
land and sea, fire
and water.

The moment I stepped over the threshold, I knew.

You have to go right up to the edge to find growth
and to learn. In those difficult moments, that's when
fire is made.

Humans can invade these realms only briefly, and
with the help of special equipment,
which they must use with
a precise attention.

In those difficult moments, that's when
fire is made.

Many of the experimenters discovered:
as you look through
the double doors to the vestibule outside,
you're met with this beautiful
piece—it has extended the room,
but then

(this is the oddest sounding thing)

sometimes the best walls are the
most unexpected ones.

And that is how she instinctively knew
art and interiors
could dance together,
and even at what tempo.

They have to be seeded and tended.
We could do that now.

Adults face many hazards and have their problems, too.
They must be able to move around, even if
they never do,
get close enough to the edge.

Until that happens, however,
we will aim to rewrite history.

The future is
a learning curve,
a magnifying glass,
a mixed up wonder-world, full of
puzzlements and surprises;
much of the architectural splendor remains.

"That's me," he admits. "I'm like glass. I'm
fire and water
sparkling in the morning light
like silver."

Found poem collaged from magazine text, including words from glass artist John Pomp quoted in the Restoration Hardware catalog.

Opening to a direct encounter

If there is a single seed of recognition—a word, a sentence, an image, gesture or felt sense,

savor it for one minute

and then, if you want to…

write it down

paint it

collage it

inhabit it.

See what grows.

If you’d like to play with words yourself, explore this practice of collaging a poem.

My name is Kirsten. In spiritual direction, I accompany folks as they attune to the inner dimensions of life.

Together we attune to the deep and the timeless. We hold questions no one else can answer for you and listen deeply. We open to what you sense and ground your intuitions in rhythms and practices that anchor you as you live into what is emerging.

We notice what is: obscurity, pain, fear, longing, wonder, delight, and hope. We invite it into the home within you, where true belonging and wisdom are always, already present.

If you feel drawn to a space like this, explore spacious accompaniment here.
